There are going to be times in your life where you feel so overwhelmed and stressed beyond belief. Perhaps you or someone else you know is in that time right now. You’ll be sitting down, thinking “how on earth is this going to work…”
Then comes the stress headaches where your brain feels like it wants to come out of your head. Your thoughts are like a swarm of bees and you just can’t seem to focus on anything. At that time, it seems impossible to see past even just a week.
Worst of all, you might feel like a disappointment and that you’ve failed the very ones you love the most. You probably think you’re all alone and that no one has your back. Whatever the trouble may be: financial, mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, relational anything – listen – no matter where you are, it’s not the end of the road. You have the power to determine how these tough times shape you. I’ve got 5 practical, easy to-do tips on how to produce the best outcomes, plus a bonus tip that trumps them all.
1) Make a list of everything you have to decide/do and everything going on. Stop trying to think about everything all at once and just write it all out on a piece of paper. After writing down each item, create a to-do list with a realistic timeline starting with things you can start doing now. I like to just plug stuff into my calendar app so I can see everything I need to do within the next couple of weeks. The main point is to transcribe everything from your brain on paper. Most people are visual processors, so when you write out everything and look at it, your brain will have a much easier time processing!
2) Get thinking about the end game. The big picture. Think big and write out all of your long-term goals in life. You’ve got to get your mind out of the storm so that you can see the big picture. Every day when you wake up, find a notepad and write 5 goals about where you want to be from this very day. After that, write down a couple of things you can do TODAY, big or small, to get you just a little bit closer to those goals. I got this idea from Grant Cardone. Check out his book :The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure. I guarantee you will feel motivated after reading it.
3) Write down some takeaways or lessons learned. This will be tough, but while you’re in the middle of the storm ask yourself through each step “what did I just learn from that?” Always try to connect or transfer everything you’re enduring to a lesson. If someone was going through what you’re going through right now, what would you say to them? What would you advise them? Write it down, you will probably find yourself helping someone going through something similar not too long from now.
4) Phone a friend – Find a mentor. It’s okay not to have all the answers. Tap into your network and seek out good wisdom from people who have been through similar storms of life. But be mindful of who you get your advice from. You wouldn’t get financial advice from someone who’s drowning in credit card debt and late payments. You’d get your advice from people who’ve overcome the storm and can now provide useful insight into your life. Robert Kiyosaki admits in his book Rich Dad Poor Dad the only reason he became as successful as he did was because of a good mentor! You’d be surprised how many people are actually willing to help. Listen to what they have to say and be encouraged by the fact that you’re not alone!
5) Stop insulting yourself and start cultivating the right mindset. So many people beat up on themselves emotionally, telling themselves that they’re not good enough, and they end up destroying their own confidence. You should NOT be your own worst enemy. Start motivating yourself in a positive way by telling yourself you can make it through and that you can achieve great things. Tony Robbins talks all about this concept in his book Awaken the Giant Within Stop telling your brain you can’t and start telling yourself you CAN. Jesus said to love your neighbor as yourself – the Golden Rule. Well, how can you love your neighbor as yourself if you can’t even love yourself!? You’re probably thinking how you can love yourself, which leads into the bonus tip:
Bonus – Have faith and believe. You need to see the big picture in life.
I believe we are all created in the image of God, in need of His saving grace. We are far from perfect and can’t do it all on our own. He is the one who can fully satisfy and fulfill you beyond your wildest dreams. In fact, He already did so in His Son, Jesus Christ. Listen here. Whether it be financial, spiritual, physical, or anything; Use these tips to bring it back to the basics and get to the root of what’s going on. Then, zoom out and look at the grand scheme of your life. Remember, as soon as you start complaining, you’re wasting precious time that you could be using to solving problems.
